When I was reissuing my backlist as digital books, I read each one for errors and slight changes I wanted to make. One thing struck me as I was reading them…the fact that at this point in my life, I could not write the books that I had once written.
The feelings in each story is different. They are not the same book. I think they were reflective of what was happening in my life at the time. For instance, when I was writing Midnight Shadow, my children were young. We would watch superheroes and Dragonball Z. The actual inspiration for Midnight Shadow was that I wondered what kind of character, what kind of person, it would take to become Batman, to dress up in a costume and fight for the common man.
That’s where I was in life when I wrote that novel, what I was experiencing and going through. I think that each one of my novels is an expression of where I was at that point in my life.
I don’t think I could write the same novels now. How about you? Do you find this to be true?
