I love music.
All kinds of foot tapping, booty shaking, soul wrenching music. When I write I almost always have headphones on. The louder the better.
The rhythm, spirit and lyrics tap in to my mind and emotions and allows my creativity to flow. This is essential when I brainstorm. I can listen to a song and write a whole section in a later scene about a character.
When I begin a book I try to pick music that portrays the tone I wish to display. Most of the songs are a little heavier than light and I often wonder why I like to write complicated characters with wounded backgrounds as opposed to funny, light fast reads which I love to read?
During edits (or attempted edits) I make a playlist for each character. Cheesy? Perhaps, but it’s my thing. My writing tool I use along with my scrapbook to help keep track of the story. Yes I do scrapbooks too.
Some artists I really love and utilize in almost every book are…
One Republic
Nickelback
Mumford and Sons
George Strait
Do you listen to music while you write? And what are some of your favorite songs?
